I'm pretty sure we can all agree, sugar makes everything better. But as great as it tastes, it’s actually not so great for our health. What’s tricky is that a lot of foods that seem healthy are packed with sugar or added sugars, which makes eating right foods confusing. One thing that’s helped me is looking into sugar alternatives. I’ll be honest though I’ve tried a bunch and most of them taste...off. I finally found one I actually like—monk fruit. It’s been a nice little win.

Brown and white sugar granules spill from brown and white paper packets labeled "SUGAR," creating a contrasting texture on a white surface.

Monk fruit is this little round fruit that comes from southern China. The sweetener is made by taking out the seeds and skin, then crushing it and pulling out the sweet stuff, which gets turned into a liquid or powder. A lot of the time, it’s mixed with erythritol so it looks and tastes more like regular sugar—and honestly, that’s why it’s so good. It’s made to taste like the sugar we all grew up with. It’s an awesome option if you’re pre-diabetic, have diabetes, or just trying to cut back on sugar.

At the end of the day, we all want to enjoy our food without feeling guilty about it. Finding a sweetener that actually tastes good and is better for you? Total game changer. If you haven’t tried monk fruit yet, it might be worth a shot, you might be surprised how much you like it.
